Skip ‘Little Axe’ McDonald...

Friday 3.45pm & 8.15pm

Skip was born in Dayton, Ohio in 1949, and learnt to play the blues on his father’s guitar at the age of eight.  In his varied musical career which has also embraced gospel, doo-wop and jazz, Skip has trod a long and twisting road.  For many years he played in the house band for the pioneering rap label Sugar Hill, providing the music for some of the most seminal records by Grandmaster Flash, Afrika Bambaata, Force MD's and others.  From there he worked on many projects for the On-U Sound label, as well as spearheading the band Tackhead and working with Living Colour.  Since 1992, Skip has returned to his roots with the ‘Little Axe’ sound, releasing five albums of stripped-down gospel-blues.
